General Description

The Elasto-Gel™ Heel/Ankle Protector Boot is a flexible, adjustable boot that offers protection for the heel, foot and ankle bones. Elasto-Gel™ technology has proven to be an effective pressure relieving gel and is combined with special fabrics and closed cell foam to provide effective heel protection. The gel insert is adjustable within the boot to allow total coverage where desired. In addition, the gel provides thermal properties which allow the application of hot or cold therapy.

Two sizes and two styles are available. For the ambulatory patient we recommend the HL406 or HL407 as the outside fabric of the boot has a non-skid rubberized bottom which provides traction and stability when walking short distances. For the non-ambulatory patient we recommend the HL408 or HL409 as the outside fabric of the boot will slide easily against the sheets and move with the patient.

Directions For Use

Cleaning Instructions

1. Remove the gel insert from the boot.
2. The boot (with gel insert removed) may be hand washed in cold water and mild soap. Do not put the boot in the dryer.
3. The gel insert cover may be wiped down with a damp cloth using disinfectant. Allow the gel insert to completely air dry before inserting into the boot.
Note: DO NOT get the gel insert wet. The gel will absorb water and swell. If the insert becomes damp, lay on a flat surface and allow it to fully air dry before continuing use.

Heating Instructions for Gel Insert

The most convenient method of heating the insert is in a microwave oven. Suggested heating time (using a 600-700 watt microwave) is 20-30 seconds. Walt one minute (60 seconds) before use. The insert should feel warm to the touch, not hot. Hold insert firmly against the skin for 30 seconds before reheating. If the insert is not warm enough, heat in 10 second increments.*
Caution: Due to the nature of the gel, it may only feel warm to the touch, but if the insert has been overheated, too much heat may be transferred to the body and can cause burns.
*Special care must be given for those with compromised sensitivity.

Cooling Instructions for Gel Insert

Store the insert in the freezer for a minimum of two (2) hours. It may be left in the freezer indefinitely until ready to use. It will remain flexible even at -20F. Remove insert prior to defrosting the freezer.
NOTE: Always store the insert in a plastic bag while in freezer.
